Anatomy for the 21st Century Fascia & Biotensegrity
Connecting the tissue of body, mind and being with
Author of YOGA , Fascia , Anatomy & Movement ( Handspring Publishing )
2-Day Seminar : Friday & Saturday , September 27 & 28 , 2019 1-9pm
This practical course will leave you clear as to how and why fascia is so important to you, personally, as a human being and professionally as a Yoga, Pilates or movement teacher.
Fascia is the fundamental fabric of your living, animated form.
When you understand the way it is organized, the essentials of its architecture , its connections and disconnections, you will be able to understand some of the mysteries of living bodies and guiding other bodies to help them move better.
This course is about 50% practical , with additional take-home information for reference and is designed for any type of movement teacher. Some people have a very scientific mind, others entirely practical, others more thoughtful and some are just curious about movement and love Yoga and Pilates for its versatility and range .
For many teaching movement is the result of resolving issues in their own lives or injuries they experienced and for many , studying anatomy can be the « boring base-line » that has to be crossed, to tick the « qualified box » .
What if it is thrilling and exciting because it changes the way you feel ? What if you could become so fascinated by what you already sense makes sense , that you discover what you are already doing has a body wisdom of its own ? What if that is the key ? This workshop is fun and practical and you will leave knowing a lot more about how you formed, how you feel your way in the world and why it matters…in your body’s language.
Fascia as the tensional network of connective tissues; the fabric of the human form. Research into fascia is revealing a whole new context for understanding the human body both at rest and in motion.
bridging the divide between the application of classical anatomy and real-life experiences of practicing and teaching movement.
examining recent research and the paradigm shift from the classical anatomy of the musculoskeletal system to the new perspective the fascia provides.“BioTensegrity is an emerging context for biomotional integrity. That is – how we move the way we do. Understanding the fascia and the fabric of our form is relatively meaningless, without the architectural organisation of that fabric, explaining how it permits movement and indeed manages the movement forces we move (that move us). We are formed under tension; pre-stressed or pre-stiffened – but what does that mean to us as movement teachers or manual therapists? What are the implications of tensional forces through the matrix of our living, animated form? The fascia is a force transmission system. BioTensegrity offers a very compelling paradigm that makes sense of its many structures and functions and multifaceted assets.“

As an advanced Yoga Practitioner and Certified Yoga Therapist, the art, craft and science of yoga and body architecture are something Joanne is very passionate about learning and teaching!
As a founding Member of the BioTensegrity Interest Group (B.I.G.), Joanne is fascinated by the application of BioTensegrity principles to the understanding of the human blueprint and natural biomotional organisation. Her writing and workshops are devoted to making this emerging context for human movement applicable and clearly understood.

Enhance your critical thinking skills and expand your knowledge of functional anatomy in a fun and creative environment. You’ll walk away with a fresh outlook and techniques to implement immediately! (This workshop is separate from the Buff Bones® Instructor Training.)
Spiraling from the Arms:
Hanging, Hand Sequences and Backbends
Sunday June 16 , 12 -6:30pm
Many of us don’t leverage the spirals of the upper quarter -- aside from rotation of certain fingers in texting. This workshop explores the spirals and 3D movement within the structural elements of the trunk, arms and neck via the fascia as the great connector and the basis of tensegrity. Through useful weight-bearing hand sequences and hanging motions we can restore natural movement patterns and enhance motor control. Whether you or your clients are exceptionally stiff or hypermobile, you will experience increases in strength and mobility that also improve joint integrity and stability. Learn how these elements translate into backbends and better spinal motion, postural control and greater freedom in the body. Discover the secret to more fluid, integrated movement!
Note: Spiraling from the Arms is more challenging in the movements and not necessarily appropriate for those with osteoporosis.
rates : 275€ for one WS , 450€ for both WS

Humans have an inherent quality to achieve harmony with nature. We often neglect this trait and trudge along precarious paths - seeking solace. Yoga Nidra - Deep Relaxation
Saturday April 14th, 6-7pm : 35€
Yoga Nidra or Yogic Sleep is an ancient, little-known guided deep relaxation technique that has ample utility in the current stressful world. Its nuances lie in walking that thin line between wakefulness and deep sleep - where you are aware of your body but disconnected to the surroundings. It is a deep relaxation technique that can be initiated even for beginners, and one can get a glimpse of what YOGA could be. Though it is a brief session, its effects are often profound and far fetching.

Meeting in Motion: Connecting through difference Workshop with Jennifer Bury
“People are trapped in history. And history is trapped in them” James Baldwin, Author
Thursday November 23th, 2017, 3 to 6pm
Our primary developmental movements such as reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling
are the intrinsic basis for every move and gesture we make throughout our lives.
By paying attention to how we move in relationship to each other we will become aware of the unconscious expressive choices we make daily. This awareness presents us with choices of how
we interpret and respond to others, enabling us to literally shape how we move through our lives. This workshop encourages childlike exploration and learning through action, in the form of a mini lecture, interactive discussion and lively, movement-based-play. We will be learning in action, from micro-movements to moving fully throughout the room. We will focus on difference,
not as a barrier, but rather as an opportunity for connection with each other.
My wish for this workshop is to help increase our sense of compassion for each other and for ourselves.
“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” Plato

HAPPY MOVE Class
October, monday 2nd, 2017 - 3pm to 5:15pm
MOUVEMENT VS RESPIRATION

DIGEST FOR LIFE : Organ health for your stomach.
July, tuesday 4th - 1pm to 15:30pm
Organ Imagery for Health, Alignment and Flexibility. Filters for Life: Organ health for your Kidneys. The organs of our body not only carry our physiological functions: The vital work of maintaining, renewing, and reproduction. They also serve an important role in the support of posture and movement. Yet in the western world, organs are generally not considered when it comes to training the body. The organs fill out space in our torso and skull and from “joints” with other organs, bones, and muscles. Compression, suction, and suspension forces relate all these structures to each other. Knowing where and how, combined with dynamic imagery will provide you with a whole new avenue for improvement and well-being. The Franklin Method distinguishes itself by focusing on imagery, self-touch, and movement exercises that can be used by anyone in any setting. All types of imagery are used to promote movement, flexibility, strength, and general health. This course will demonstrate how organ training with imagery can improve movement, posture, flexibility, and strength; improve the organs physiological functioning; and improve stamina, digestion, circulation, moode immune function, etc. Learn: The connection between organs, strength and flexibility How the diaphragm and organs interrelate in 3-D How the organs affect mood and relaxation
How Long : 2.5 hours
THE ART OF BREATHING
July, tuesday 4th - 4:30pm to 7:30pm
Many of us agree that breathing is very important not just for survival but our overall well being. Yet most of us don’t really know how it actually works. What is good breathing, what is the design, and what can prevent its proper activation? Your breathing influences the health of a variety of aspects like posture, heart, digestion, pelvic floor, emotions, learning ability, and energy levels.
In this workshop, we will come to understand the design, structure, and movements of the diaphragm, ribs, deep abdominal muscles and how they can work together to strengthen and free up both body and mind. Through easy to do imagery, touch, voice, and movement exercise we will explore the mechanics and physiology of breathing. We will explore the wave pattern of breathing up and down the spine and experience how we can use our breath as our positive energy thermostat.
How breathing works and what it means to breathe well
How posture and breathing are related
How to use breathing to improve your endurance
How to breath correctly in the Pilates exercises
How Long ? 3 hours
85 € one workshop

We communicate with each other all the me - with and without words. This nonverbal communication,or “kinesthetic resonance”, is rarely recognized, yet provides the intrinsic basis from whichwe interpret and respond to the world around us.Through experimenting with our primary developmental movements in relationship to each other, we will become aware of our own unconscious expressive tendencies. This awareness expands our perception of ourselves and thereby increases our overall ability to connect with others. The workshop will include theoretical, experiential, and collaborative learning in the form of a mini-lecture, interactive discussion and engaged, action-based-play, to excite our curiosity for exploration and meaningful contact.
